Areas of Prague

Currently almost a million of people are living in Prague. Around 10% of them are foreigners. The Prague itself is divided into 22 administrative districts (obvod), which are also divided into 57 city parts. But it’s better to think that Prague is divided into 10 city districts, which are considered as the main ones according to judicial point of view, electoral and postal laws also. For better convenience, these districts are numbered from 1 to 10. As an example, if the postal address is ul.Janskeho 2191, Praha 5. It means that current house is located in district Prague 5.
Prague 1–center. It is the most expensive part of the city, where the main city sights and tourist paths are located. Very attractive for commercial property and house renting. There are no new buildings.
Prague 2–district next to the center, so-called Vinogrady. It’s located slightly to the north from the center, which is also considered as an expensive and prestigious area. At this point of time, old houses are being reconstructed by changing bathroom equipments and electric wires. Several of new buildings can be found in this district.
Prague 3–Zhizhkov. Previously it was gipsy zone with all their amenities of compact living. For instance, there were 100 game bars located on the General Konev Street. And all of these are in the closest distance with center. But during last the days this area is being transformed. Swarthy people are selling their apartments and changing their place of inhabitance, while their places are successfully being rebuilt and filled by new tenants.
Prague 4–located to the south from center along the river Vltava. Mainly, it’s a territory with villas mixed with multiple storey houses. This distinct is located along the river and that’s why prices for property vary from place to place.
Prague 5–district located on the river bank. Starts from the Smihov brewer and lasts till the airport side. New buildings are a lot here.
Prague 6– Prague’s the most prestigious district. It’s rich with consulates of different countries and luxurious villas. Because of that property and land are very expensive in here.
Prague 7–territory located to the north from the center. The fabulous Prague’s zoo is located there. There are many parks and greenery. In the Golevoshitsy area there are lots of old buildings, on the other river side micro-districts are located, which were build in the end of last century.
Prague 8is consists of dormitory area. Mainly it’s build up from panel houses. Not long time ago, metro branch line was brought there and prices on property slightly increased. This district is also consists of many new buildings.
Prague 9is north-east district of the capital city. Many factories and plants are there. Correspondingly the ecology is not on the proper level.
Prague 10territory mainly consisted of villas and little inclusions of panel houses with many parks and greenery.
Despite that, area around the Prague was divided into two parts. Prague East and Prague West. Human settlements are also included into them, which are located in a close distance with the capital.
